I am Amy Cresswell MOT, OTR/L. Click here to read more about my Private Practice Grow Forward Occupational Therapy, located at 2598 Main Street, Morro Bay CA (same building as The Yellow House Project). I have been working as a pediatric occupational therapist since graduating with a Master’s degree in occupational therapy from Samuel Merritt University in 2003. My background includes a Bachelor of science degree in child development from California State University Fresno in 2001 which provided a solid foundation of understanding the psychological, social, behavioral, and physical aspects of growth and development throughout childhood and adolescence.
As a pediatric occupational therapist, I have well-rounded experience working in settings including in-patient rehabilitation at a children’s hospital, a sensory integration-based OT clinic which also provided educationally based OT in school settings and feeding therapy. I have worked for California Children’s Services in San Luis Obispo County since 2009. The past 10 years at CCS and ongoing extended education in the areas of feeding and swallowing have expanded my experience and knowledge working with infants, children, and adolescents who have eating and feeding challenges. I have worked together with families and children who have been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, or other neurological based challenges. In providing feeding therapy I have helped each child with such concerns to gain or regain the trust, confidence, and skills to find greater comfort with textures, food, and participation in family and social mealtimes.
As a pediatric occupational therapist who provides feeding therapy, I bring a wholistic child based and family centered approach. Building trust, strengthening confidence, and establishing therapeutic relationships requires teamwork and occurs over time. With the incorporation of play, sensory, movement, motor skills, and exposure therapy, I strive to work together with families and their child to find greater comfort with textures, food, and participation in family and social mealtimes. Sometimes the smallest gains are the most profound.
