Hi There! I’m Emily Banser. I’ve always felt a pull to work with individuals recovering from eating disorders. Since 2019, I have had the privilege of working in this specialized field, and have developed a deep respect for the commitment and resilience my clients demonstrate throughout their healing journeys. My professional training has taken me across the country and through several different levels of care. Now I’m thrilled to be back with Marlena Tanner and the team at the Yellow House Project!

After completing my Dietetic Internship in 2017, I began my career as a clinical dietitian in Orlando, Florida. There, I gained foundational experience in Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) as well as a (still!) growing frustration with the prevalence of diet culture and weight stigma. Ready for a change, I left one sunny state for another and moved to California. There, I began working for an Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Program, diving headfirst into the world of eating disorder treatment. I learned the value of collaborating with a multidisciplinary team—including both radically compassionate providers and amazingly hardworking clients—and the profound impact of standing alongside clients as they confront and overcome food-related fears. Over the years, I’ve gained further experience at the residential level of care and have received training in various treatment modalities, including Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), embodied movement through yoga, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), among others. After another cross-country move my practice has shifted fully to Telehealth. While I miss sharing physical space with my clients and team, I am grateful for the technology that allows me to keep doing work that I love!

Outside of work, I am an avid reader and dog-snuggler. I live in Maryland (for now) with my husband and two fur-babies, Diggs and Reggie. You may see them poke their heads into my video screen from time to time!
